The Board of Crewe based provider of social housing Wulvern is considering plans to invest millions of pounds in the area in the next financial year. Wulvern has earmarked £5.5 million pounds for improvements to its housing stock in 2010/11, including new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems as well as environmental improvements.
A further £11 million pounds has been identified to build new homes and replace out of date bed-sit accommodation.
Director of Partnerships Rob Allen said “Wulvern’s Board will meet in March to consider the plans that our customers have helped prioritise. If approved this investment programme is great news for our customers and the local economy during this difficult economic period. Wulvern is committed to creating homes and communities where people want to live and this investment plan is part of that commitment.”
The £16.5 million pounds brings the companies total investment in Crewe and Nantwich to £93.5 million since it was formed in 2003.
“We will continue to invest in new and enterprising solutions to ensure that our existing and prospective customers get the best possible service” said Mr Allen. The investment would be made possible by a rent increase of up to £1.68 per week. “We will also continue to help our customers by investing in a range of support and advice services such as our Housing Benefits Liaison service, our Citizens Advice Debt, Welfare Rights and Income enhancement programme and our Healthy, Wealthy and Wise project which has helped vulnerable people in the area reclaim over £1.7 million in benefits that they are entitled to”.
